Lore and Bots

Improving your RP

First of all, I'm definitely not an expert, and this is my first time sharing my characters, but I'd like to share some tips on how to make your experience with JanitorAI more easy or comfortable.

For starts, I test my characters with a custom JLLM prompt made by kolech3. She has a lot of fantastic characters, you should definetely check her profile! I've never tried GPT and I'm not planing to, so all of my future bots will probably be tested while using kolach3's prompt.

While roleplaying, it's common for bots to say and do things we don't like, or do exactly the opposite of what we want. You can always roll for a different answer until you get what you want, you can edit the character's answer (which is something I do when the answer is almost perfect), but what I do the most, is to guide the character.

By guiding {{char}} or "dropping hints", you can get it to do almost anything you want. If hints aren't enough, you can directly act like an omniscient narrator and tell {{char}} what it feels or thinks. For example, if I'm talking with a bot that's supposed to be strictly platonic but I want it to be more romantic, I'll describe my actions and words, and then I'll add something like

You can make it more or less obvious, but the idea is the same: You can direct {{char}}'s actions, dialogue, thoughts and feelings by narrating them, and in a 99% of the cases, it'll play along. Sometimes it takes it a couple of messages for {{char}} to understand what it's expected from them, but ultimately it works perfectly, unless it was written to specifically avoid doing certain things.

If you want to change the established scenario, a jump in time, ask {{char}} something about the lore or its personality, anything like that, you can write OoC (Out of Characters). For example:

Use the options you have, like the memory chat to help the bot remember important things and the generation settings. I keep the temperature between .65 and 1.

If the bot talks for you, it usually is because our message as {{user}} is too short, and we're not giving it enough to roleplay with, so it tries to fill in by using our persona in its message. Longer texts will normally fix the issue, but you can always edit the bot's message to teach it what you want. There's nothing the creators can do to fix it.
